One of the most exciting athletes to watch during the 2008 Beijing Olympics was Priscilla Lopes-Schliep. Her sheer grit and unwavering determination in her conquest of Olympic bronze in the woman's 100-metre hurdles (the first medal of its kind for Canada at this distance) has made Whitby's own Priscilla a shining star of the impressive Canadian team. But success does not happen overnight and Priscilla owes a lot to her strict training schedule, passionate coaches, faithful supporters... and proper nutrition. What foods fuel an athlete of Pricilla's calibre? Here's your chance to find out.

Q: Describe your typical day of training.
A: A typical day at the track starts with 45-50 minutes of warm-ups and drills followed by hurdle runs and speed training.

Q: How important is proper nutrition when you are training?
A: Proper nutrition has helped me to reach my goals. I still eat chocolate, but I know my limit.

Q: Is there anything you try to eat more of or avoid while you are training?
A: There is nothing I try to eat more or less of. I just know that moderation is the key.

Q: If you are craving a quick snack, what do you reach for first?
A: If I want a quick snack, it depends on what I feel like. It could be chocolate, an apple, a Special K bar, or even Quaker Chewy Dipps bar.

Q: Favorite pre-race snack?
A: Same as the above.

Q: Favorite treat?
A: Ice cream!

Q: What is your overall attitude towards proper nutrition?
A: My overall attitude towards proper nutrition is that you just have to be smart about what you eat. Know your limits. Nutrition and working out should go hand in hand. Eating the right things and sticking to a well-balanced diet is the key.
