How should I use this medication?
The recommended starting dose of clomiphene is 50 mg daily for 5 days.
If the woman has had no recent uterine bleeding, it may be started at any time. If bleeding occurs (spontaneous or progestin-induced) prior to therapy, clomiphene is started on or about Day 5 of the cycle. If ovulation does not occur in the first cycle after using the medication, a dose of 100 mg daily for 5 days can be used for the next cycle as directed by your doctor. The maximum dose for this medication is 100 mg daily for 5 days. It is recommended not to use this medication for more than 6 cycles of treatment.
Many things can affect the dose of medication that a person needs, such as body weight, other medical conditions, and other medications. If your doctor has recommended a dose different from the ones given here, do not change the way that you are taking the medication without consulting your doctor.
It is important that this medication be taken exactly as prescribed by the doctor. If you miss a dose, take it as soon as possible and continue on with your regular schedule. If you do not remember until it is time for your next dose, take both doses together and continue on with your regular dosing schedule. If you miss more than one dose, call your doctor.
Do not dispose of medications in wastewater (e.g. down the sink or in the toilet) or in household garbage. Ask your pharmacist how to dispose of medications that are no longer needed or have expired.
