How does this medication work? What will it do for me?
Testosterone belongs to the class of medications called androgens (male hormones). This medication is used to replace testosterone in males who have conditions caused by low testosterone levels. It is also used to treat erectile dysfunction (erectile difficulties or the inability to attain or maintain an erection) and other male sexual problems when they are caused by low testosterone levels.
This medication works by replacing the testosterone that would normally be produced by the body. Testosterone should only be used if testosterone deficiency has been confirmed by symptoms and blood tests.
Your doctor may have suggested this medication for conditions other than those listed in these drug information articles. As well, some forms of this medication may not be used for all of the conditions discussed here. How should I use this medication?
The dose of testosterone undecanoate is adjusted according to the response of the person taking the medication. For the first 2 to 3 weeks of treatment, a daily dose of 120 mg to 160 mg in two divided doses is used. After this, the dose of testosterone undecanoate usually ranges from 40 mg to 120 mg daily. Take capsules with a meal and swallow them whole without chewing them.
Many things can affect the dose of a medication that a person needs, such as body weight, other medical conditions, and other medications. If your doctor has recommended a dose different from the ones listed here, do not change the way that you are taking the medication without consulting your doctor.
It is important to take this medication exactly as prescribed by your doctor. If you miss a dose, take it as soon as possible and continue with your regular schedule. If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and continue with your regular dosing schedule. Do not take a double dose to make up for a missed one. If you are not sure what to do after missing a dose, contact your doctor or pharmacist for advice.

What form(s) does this medication come in?
Each oval, orange, soft gelatin capsule marked "ORG DV3" contains 40 mg of testosterone undecanoate. Nonmedicinal ingredients: castor oil, propylene glycol monolaurate, and gelatin.
Who should NOT take this medication?
Do not take this mediction if you:
- are allergic to testosterone or to any of the ingredients of the medication
- are female (especially if you are pregnant or breast-feeding)
- have, or are suspected to have, prostate or breast cancer
