SASKATOON - A former Saskatoon doctor has been sentenced to a year in jail and two years probation for sexually assaulting two of his female patients.

Krishna Vittala was found guilty last month but the sentencing was delayed because he is in the latter stages of prostate cancer and had been hospitalized.

Vittala was convicted of three counts of sexual assault after a Court of Queen's Bench judge found he had not been completely forthright with his testimony.

The women testified they were groped by the former physician.

His daughter says she believes her father may die in jail.

Vittala admitted to hugging one patient but insisted it was to calm her, adding he called her to apologize for causing a misunderstanding.
