The Internet has opened a world of information for anyone looking to get active.
Videos and photos can be a great way to see exercise details and proper form. The challenge is finding information you can trust. Here are checks to keep in mind when considering web material:
- Be wary of any products or services being offered; you are visiting the website for instructional information, not to spend money.
- The best content doesn't need to come at a premium; stay clear of paid services. Visit a real personal trainer if you are looking for a personalized plan.
- If you don't like what you see, keep searching.
Here are some sites with good quality information that I have used to help showcase exercises.
Diet.com provides an excellent showcase of instructional videos - contrary to what the site name may suggest. Choose from workout sequences or individual exercises.
Men's Health and Women's Health are great sites for more advanced exercisers, with a variety of programs or exercises that can be tried at home or in a gym. Frequent updates make for new challenges each month. The Men's Health exercise directory is an excellent resource for men and women, with clear photo sequences and detailed instructions.
ExRx offers an exercise library with hundreds of exercises to target every muscle. It includes options for stretching and exercises with free weights, body weight and machines, plus many other activities in both written form and animated photos.

What makes these sites stand out? The videos and instructions are simple and clearly show how to perform the exercise right. Plus the sites have options for more advanced activity and tools to help build your own workouts.
