Yes. Ecstasy, which is also known as 3, 4-methylenedioxymethamphetamine, or MDMA, is an illegal drug commonly associated with young people attending all-night dance parties or raves. However, it is becoming more popular in other groups and settings.
This drug is associated with very toxic effects, such as irregular heartbeat and kidney failure, and its use has even led to a number of deaths. Using ecstasy with other medications, whether legal or illegal, can be harmful. For example, ritonavir, a medication used to treat HIV, can interact with ecstasy, leading to higher levels of ecstasy in your body which may increase the risk of negative effects. Other medications include monoamine oxidase inhibitors (MAOI), lithium, and fluoxetine, just to name a few. If you have questions or concerns about ecstasy, talk to your doctor or pharmacist.
