 | Ask an Expert: Nutrition | | | | |
Over time, parasites and toxins can accumulate in the body and if they are left untreated they may lead to serious chronic disease. Our bodies are designed to be self-sufficient in maintaining a routine, healthy balance. But unfortunately, we are now exposed to a larger toxin load due to medications, smoking, alcohol or drug use, and toxin exposure in the environment.
A body cleanse can help increase the rate of elimination of stored toxins as well as provide support for the organs being cleansed. There are a multitude of cleanses available, ranging from mild to extreme. In choosing a body cleanse that's most suitable for you, make sure that the cleanse:
- still allows your body to meet its daily essential nutrient needs
- does not replace proper long-term nutrition with "quick fixes
- hydrates your body thoroughly
- provides the support needed for your organs in order to prevent against free-radical damage that may arise during the elimination of toxins
I would recommend consulting your doctor before starting any cleanse.
