 | Ask an Expert: Bedwetting | | | | |
Bedwetting is caused by a delay in the development of three body functions: bladder function control, in that the bladder contracts spontaneously; very deep sleep, and a concurrent inability to awaken; and a decreased amount or activity of a compound the brain makes that helps the kidneys reabsorb water. The medication DDAVP® MELT is almost identical to the natural compound the brain makes and closely mimics its action. Since DDAVP® MELT so similar to the natural compound, it can be safely taken for many months to many years as long as the child requires it to maintain dry nights.
