We all get occasional aches and pains, but when they affect your quality of life it is time to see your doctor. Here is a list of circumstances associated with OA that should prompt you to make a doctor's appointment:

  • joint pain that you haven't experienced before that lasts 7 days or more
  • a recent injury with related severe pain
  • fever or other signs of infection in your joint (hot, swollen joint) or a rash
  • unusual muscle weakness
  • burning, numbness, or tingling associated with joint pain
  • morning joint stiffness that lasts for more than one hour
  • joint pain during pregnancy
  • feeling that you need to see a doctor
  • feeling unsure of whether your OA treatment is working or whether you are using it properly
